CGTR (Coated Ground Tire Rubber)

The internal Start-Up CGTR works on an innovative coating system, which binds strongly and permanently onto rubber. With a specially developed lacquer, granulates from recycled tires are color coated and afterwards used as a long term stable infill material for modern artificial turf fields.

Today’s artificial turf fields mainly get their high quality through flexible infill. Interspersed between the artificial grass fibers, a centimeter-thick layer of this infill material provides the optimal flexibility of the sports field. Injuries of the athletes muscles and joints are avoided. The infill is mainly made from recycled scrap tires.

Uncoated scrap tire granulates however show some drawbacks, such as strong heating, rubber smell in sunlight and dusting through abrasion. To avoid these drawbacks, the Evonik lacquer formulation is systematically adjusted to the rubber granulates’ chemistry. It also leads to longer stability compared to other currently available coatings.

Beyond that the lacquer can also be used to coat a multitude of other rubber surfaces with no limitation for individual coloring.
