CO2 Separation & Use

How to revive CO2?

The goal of this line of development is to use CO2 separated from gas mixtures in the 7-digit-tons region for value-adding processes.

The main focus is investigating innovative methods to separate and utilize CO2 from gas mixtures. One possible solution is the absorption of CO2 out of flue gas. Here the optimization of absorption materials is necessary to capture highly concentrated CO2, which can then subsequently serve as a carbon source in chemical production. Algae offer another possibility to separate CO2 out of gas mixtures. As they grow 7 – 10 times faster than typical bioenergy crops they can assimilate much more CO2 that could be used for the conversion into higher value products.

Through these measures, CO2 emissions can be returned back into biological or chemical synthesis pathways. Examples of possible application areas are transportation fuels, synthetic fertilizers, bulk chemicals and animal feeds.

Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) play a crucial decisive role in the evaluation of all potentially new technologies at S2B Eco².
