Georg Joachim Rheticus

Astronomer and mathematician

Rheticus (1514 - 1574) was one of the first to spread the heliocentric theory of Nicolaus Copernicus, according to which, contrary to Christian doctrine, the sun does not rotate around the earth.

As the only student of Copernicus, he studied with the astronomer and doctor for two years and encouraged him to complete and publish his work.

In 1551 Rheticus published his own most important work, the Canon doctrinae triangulorum, with numerous trigonometric tables.

Kopernikus-Projects

The Rheticus research project is a spin-off from the Kopernikus projects, one of the federal government's (BMBF) largest research initiatives in the field of the energy transition.

Rheticus shows how the Power-to-X idea can be successfully implemented. The research projects Rheticus I and II were funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with a total of 6.3 million euros.
